Analysis of trailers and posters 3

This is the poster for Paranormal Activity 3, I have also analysed the trailer for this film.

The image used on this poster is a still taken from the film which is a common feature of film posters. The scary part of the image that we are drawn to is the tall shadow that stads between the two beds where the young girls are sleeping. Also in the bottom right corner of the image there is a time and date shown as it would appear on a handheld camera. People will know if they have seen the first films in the series that a lot of the film is captured on handheld cameras, but if the viewer has not seen them before the handheld camera feature will help them to understand what is going on.
The text at the top says "Discover how the activity began" which gives a clue to how the film relates to Paranormal Activity 1 and 2. The events of this film actually happened before those in the other two films. Also underneath the image it says, "It runs in the family" which also gives a little clue to what characters will be in the film and how they will connect to those in the previous films. This tagline can also be associated with something scary, as in horror history amily became something to be scared of. News of husbands murdering their wives and children sparked a series of supposedly 'true' horror films. And also children becoming possessed was feared in real life so horror films targeted it as something that will really scare people.
The whole poster is very dark and the border above and below the image is black - which connotes death, darkness and hidden things. This is extremely common within the horror genre. Even the image is dark as it is taken from part of the film in the eary hours of the morning when the children are sleeping.
The poster gives the date when the film will be in cinemas but below that it gives a website and a twitter link. Also there is a barcode in the bottom left corner which can be scanned by certain phones to take them directly to sites about the film or posibley to the trailer. This shows how technology influences the advertisment of films and how advertisers are now reaching out to a target audience through lots of different techniques.
